Presentation: The Unesco Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions is the first international legal instrument to formally recognise the specific nature of cultural goods and services and the legitimate right of states to set up and implement their own cultural policies. Since it was adopted 5 years ago, the convention has been ratified by 114 states and the Intergovernmental Committee is working to bring about an effective implementation of the convention.
